The operations in this area include oceanographic measurements, marine biology and inshore hydrology. For these activities, Dvokut ECRO maintains a large inventory of sophisticated field instrumentation for inland and offshore measurements. A highly equipped oceanographic laboratory is used for oceanographic measurements and research, exploration activities in marine biology are carried out by a team of professional divers with a background in biologist, while for inshore hydrology we employ various mobile facilities.
Oceanographic laboratory is a mobile work-station installed on a Chris Craft 30' EXPRESS CRUISER type boat (10 m long, 3.3 m wide operated by 2 IVECO-Aifo diesel engines of 100 KW each) equipped with top navigation instruments, including a radar.
We also employ other following high-technology instruments and equipment, including
ROXANN GROUNDMASTER GD-X Seabed Classification system, using a dual frequency sonar for inshore and seabed classification. It interfaces with a Global Position System (GPS) and PC enabling real-time seabed classification and mapping of geological and biological features. RoxAnn GD-X uses an echosounder to extract data on bottom roughness and hardness. Data on the position, time, depth and seabed classification may later be integrated into a GIS system. It is the combination of these powerful tools that provides information on the distribution of benthic biotopes and seabed geology.
Spatial and time data series allow monitoring of changes occurring in the explored area and provide a valuable tool for long-term monitoring
TELEDYNE RD INSTRUMENTS WORKHORSE SENTINEL 600kHz is a current profiling and measurement device. Sentinel is an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiling (ADCP) instrumentation, utilizing a 4-beam sonar system. These devices are special in so far as they are suitable for a variety of applications. Direct reading or self contained, moored or moving, ship - or bottom-mounted, the Sentinel provides precision current profiling and bottom tracking dana. It is easy to uprade, including pressure, bottom tracking, and directional wave measurement.
WATER AND SEDIMENT SAMPLING INSTRUMENTS – for water and seabed analysis
CTD PROBE – electronic device used to measure chemical and physical seawater properties, conductivity, temperature, pressure, oxygen content, pH and redox potential.
SECCHI DISK – device used to measure water transparency.
Marine biology
For exploration and research operations in marine biology, we maintain a large inventory of sophisticated instrumentation for the study of marine habitats. The activities are carried out by trained divers with an academic background in biology (grade 2 grade according to SSI or 2-star according to CMAS).
